I'm a mixed-media teaching artist based in Durham, NC. Currently, I am an Art Specialist at the Levin Jewish Community Center in Durham, an Art Instructor at Artpost at Happymess, offering a range of art instruction and professional consultation for artists and teachers on the Zoom platform. I have clients in many US states and internationally.
I continue to take commissions for pet portraits as well as specifically designed art requests for home, office, or gifts. I enjoy creating work that fills a need and brings pleasure.
My abstract palette knife paintings are an exploration of color, texture and line as freedom to define art without constraints. There are reflective or shiny qualities in some of the materials I use. This body of work is more about the process in combining the carefully chosen materials, than is planned with a specific outcome. I sometimes lose the energy or get bored if I know how a painting will turn out!
I'm inspired by the natural, living world; hiking, gardening, and moving in the sunlight. Many of the shapes that appear in my work are borrowed from things that grow, wither, or bloom. Nature has the best patterns. I love caring for and observing animals, especially dogs, which have such a need for contact and affection that brings out that side of me. I am an enthusiastic supporter of the Animal Protection Society of Durham and support them through the sales of some of my work.
