Indian Blanket, Firewheel, Girasol Rojo, Asteraceae (Aster Family)

It is currently everywhere on roadsides and in fallow fields here in SE Texas. I am amazed how when varieties of Southeast Texas wildflowers are finishing their bloom cycle, new ones are just beginning their own blooming.

These flowers blanket the roadsides and medians in June and July and display a range of warm colors within their flower heads.

The skeletal hand is my human attempt to learn about this plant and connect it to its cycle of germination, growth, seed formation, and death. There are several phases of the Gaillardia’s plant life represented here. These growth cycles are continuous and perpetuate themselves through seed dispersal without human intervention.
